Meet Up Groups

I am exploring some of the social networks and Meetup.com has been recommended to me on several occasions. I checked it out today and there are so many groups, and people looking to join groups. I am exploring this avenue now, for both social and business purposes.

Some ideas I have for groups in the Manhasset/Port Washington area of Long Island are:
  1. Sports widows unite (spouses or partners who are left to their own devices when the spouse or partner go to play sport, or watch sporting events)
  2. Women helping women (exactly what it says - being a support for each other, talking about issues that you don't feel comfortable talking to your spouse or partner about - either business related, or personal)
  3. Authentic networking (getting to know each other first before shoving a business card in your hand and asking for business when you have known someone for all of 30 seconds). This could be done over coffee, lunch, dinner, outings, etc. Fun things while getting to know each other.
  4. Small business board (you don't have to be in business by yourself - you can have a "volunteer board" to help you with business related decisions - finance, marketing, sales, admin, etc.)
  5. Yo-Yo dieter's unite (struggling to lose the last 10 or 20 lbs - forever!)
  6. Cyber overload (overwhelmed with all the avenues available to you in cyberworld? Take a step back and explore the pros and cons of each to see how they could help you)

Would any of these appeal to you? Please feel free to post a comment.

Have an extraordinary day!

Powerful You! Women's Network

It's happening already - what I dreaded most about starting a blog. Keeping up with it daily, but life happens.

Yesterday I attended a trade show put on by the Queens Chamber of Commerce at the new Citifield (home of the Mets). There were 6 of us sharing a table (all independent business owners), each representing our own businesses, plus we were all representing a fabulous women's networking organization - Powerful You! Women's Network - Networking with a heart.

Powerful You! is all about women helping women. You don't have to own a business, or even be employed to be eligible to join. Any woman can join. As long as you want to connect with other like minded women. We support each other in all ways, without the competitiveness that sometimes happens in other networking groups. Check it out - http://www.powerfulyou.com/.

Empowering Beliefs

I put some thought into what I wanted to believe instead of being ruled by my limiting beliefs. Here's what I came up with:

  1. My quality of life will be better if I exercise my joints and strengthen my muscles.
  2. I will schedule time each day to improve my health.
  3. I love dancing – dancing is a great form of exercise.
  4. I will find a way to eat healthy, with minimum preparation.
  5. I will educate myself on healthy eating habits and on what foods my body reacts to best.
  6. I will learn how to make smart choices in social situations.
  7. Food is fuel for my body.

I feel better already. I’m on the way to retraining my brain.

If you identified your limiting beliefs yesterday, think about how you can turn those around into empowering beliefs.

Your brain does not know the difference between what is real, and what is perceived. Train your brain to think of the outcomes you want, instead of the challenges or issues you have.

Limiting Beliefs

Yesterday I said I was going to identify my limiting beliefs when it comes to yo-yo dieting.

Here they are:

  1. There is no point in starting an exercise program because I know I won’t continue it for the rest of my life.
  2. I don’t have time to exercise.
  3. I don’t enjoy exercising.
  4. I don’t want to spend hours in the kitchen preparing food.
  5. I can’t maintain my ideal weight once I reach it.
  6. I can’t enjoy social situations and maintain my ideal weight.
  7. It doesn’t seem to matter what I eat I put on weight.
  8. The more focused I am on losing weight, the more I think about food.
  9. What’s the point, it doesn’t stay off!

Tomorrow I am going to identify more empowering beliefs to keep me on track. Stay tuned……

Think about your unique situation - relationships, sports, work, business, life in general. What are the limiting beliefs in your life that are keeping you stuck?

Yo-Yo Dieting

Are you one of the thousands of people who have been trying to lose those last 10 or 20 pounds over and over again? I am! I'm going to take charge of that aspect of my life. I am in control in almost all other areas but this one tends to elude me, over, and over, and over again. It's going to STOP. This is my commitment to myself. I am sharing it with you all so you can keep me accountable for my results. I will keep you informed of my progress and hopefully this will inspire others to do the same.

Today I am going to identify what my limiting beliefs are in relation to weight. Tomorrow I will report on what I find.

Wish me luck!

Have an extraordinary day!
